Real advice to Teen Queen

So we moved a few months ago and I have no idea where TQ's diary ended up. So well just go with advice to myself at 13:

1. Do NOT do things just to fit in, try to be your own person, it's the cool thing to do.

2. Be nice to someone no one else is nice to.

3. Don't worry that you don't have a boyfriend there will be plenty of time for that later.

4. Eat whatever you want, once you hit 25 you will no longer have the luxury of being so thin.

5. Enjoy being young. Relax in the summer, swim in the lake, ride your bike, be goofy.

6. Know how lucky you are to live on a lake.

7. Be nice to your mom she works really hard, help her out as much as you can.

8. Your parents know more than you think.

9. Keep studying, it's worth it no matter if it's cool or not.

10. Don't let other people dictate who you are .

I'm sure there are more but that's good for now,

Cheers,
M

Nerd alert!

First off let me explain...in no way was I ever a "teen queen" , far from it. It just sounded like a good name for the blog.

Here you go....the first diary entry from 1994! The actual entry is in blue....my comments are in pink. Enjoy!

Sunday 2-20-94

Dear Diary,

I know it has been a long time.(Not sure what's THIS is about?!?) I guess I got caught up in everything. Like Basketball and Dances and those sort of things (of course! Not exactly what I get "caught up in" now...more like work, cooking, cleaning, taking care of the baby...).  The new year has started off great. In Basketball we are 2-3 in games and 4th in the Torney. The dance was great I danced with Jim Bean. Oh well. (Waaa haaa haa haa, apparently Jim wasn't so cool, and I was not excited about this).  Wensday (Wednesday!-- so I wasn't ALWAYS a stickler for grammar) we are going swimming. Last week we had Jackson Space Muesum it was ok. We gave money to a homeless man at McDonalds. I wish I would have given him more (That's nice! Good job TQ! Now I mostly ignore homeless people....hmmmm....maybe there's a lesson in here somewhere). Altogether we gathered about 20 dollars. Seventh grade is great. I wish it was longer. (Yes I have ALWAYS been a school nerd...why else would I go to college for 7 years) The school year is more than half over already. I got to play in the game Against Busco and we won! Jess is going with Patrick, Amiee going with a 6th grader named Jeremy, Kaylee Smith is going with Bill Blue and Susan S. is going with Aaron B. (BTW--not a single one of those people probably even talks to that person anymore....maybe just checks out their profile on facebook)I've been in Drama, French, Science Extra, Extra, and now I"m in Brodcasting. Home Ec just ended Friday that was fun. But Health was my favorite Rotation class.(Nerd alert!)  I met a girl named Kristi Plastic at contest for choir. I've called her 3 times. She seems nice.(For now!!!!!)  I won two gold metals, 1 for band and 1 for choir. Kristi's phone number is 555-1234.  (For safe keeping?!?) I like Bill B. but he's going out with Kaylee. And I like Kaylee so it's not like I want them to break up or anything.(Well of course not!) Well gotta go. (So many things to do....like dances and basketball practice, ha ha ha)  Nice Talking. (Who am I talking to?)

Sincerley,

"Teen Queen"

I have to say when I first read this again. I did laugh out loud at the "Jim Bean" comment (and no that's not his real name). All the I guess I got caught up in everything.....REALLY!??? I had no idea was life was about back then. It revolved around school dances and who was going out with who and of course talking on the phone (that still hasn't changed for most teen queens, except it's probably texting and not talking.

I have to say the idea of giving money to people in need is great. I think it's easy to get caught up in our own lives and problems. Does that mean the next time I see a "homeless" person I will give them money....no. But I will give where I can and to I think may need it most. It may not be money, it may be help.

I'm still a nerd. I'm a freakin biologist for goodness sake, of course I'm a nerd!

Introducing...a teen queen...not so much!

This is now!
I found my diary a few weeks ago from when I was 13-14. After reading it I realized how amusing it was and it took me back to a time when I thought completely differently. I am about to turn 31 (shhhhhh), and just had a son about 8 months ago. This blog is going to be a place where I first write out my 13 yr old "teen queen" diary entry and then comment back to myself. I may throw some advice in there. Either way it will be amusing.

To introduce the "teen queen" (TQ), let's start off with the front cover of the diary:

"Warning, Warning, Warning, if you read this without my permission you will be hurt !! (exclamation points with a smiley face underneath) And that sucks!" Sincerley-TQ

Can't you see the TQ's wisdom already?

and...then

As a disclaimer, I will spell things exactly as they are spelled in the diary, however, some names will be changed to protect TQs privacy and well let's be honest...to be a bit nicer.
